Project Overview
This 2-floor renovation in Mergenthaler Hall on the Homewood Campus included a computer lab, hi-tech conference room, and private offices for the Biophysics Department at Johns Hopkins University. The job was completed on an extremely tight 8-week schedule with a drop-dead date being the opening day of classes. Schaefer Construction was chosen over another contractor already working in the building because our pricing was in line with the budget and we were able to commit to the demanding completion date. To complicate matters, the work included demolition of numerous utilities and pipe installations left from a prior Chemistry lab. To accomplish their removal in an occupied building necessitated the scheduling of some 20 utility outages through the client’s maintenance staff and facilities manager, most requiring 10 days prior notice. Initially skeptical that their aggressive schedule could be met, the client was thrilled to move in on time and offered that without the extreme dedication of our job superintendent, that would never have been possible.
